It is important to teach vocabulary in all subject areas because it improves students' academic success in all content areas. The more words students know the better they are able to comprehend and that is the main goal of reading. After all increase in vocabulary will definitely improve students' ability in speaking and writing .

I quite agree with many of the points that cyana stated, in order for comprehension to be effective students need to know vocavulary associated with content, you cannot have one without the other. Additionally when students are familiar with content area vocabulary then comprehension is deepen and students can use their background knowledge to make connections.

i would say that vocabulary and comprehension instruction are closely related and they help make content area instruction more explicit and comprehendable to students so that they can utlize the knowledge learnt and apply it to real life situations.

I totally agree with the students who said that Vocabulary knowledge is fundamental to reading comprehension. One cannot understand the text without knowing what most of the words means. When students know the words they will encounter before reading, it enables them to read more fluently and less choppy. When students familiarize themselves with the vocabulary they are also able to understand and make meaning in all subject area /content areas. In that way while reading students are less frustrated trying to comprehend or organize information.
